Welcome to House T'Samaris.
This is the official homepage of House T'Samaris, a live role-playing (LRP) group. We play a group of dark elves - Drow - within the Jhereg faction of the Curious Pastimes universe.
We hope the site is useful and entertaining for you - there's general LRP information as well as stuff that is more specific to our group. So, if you are a Curious Pastimes player, a D&D player looking for information on the Drow, or another LARPer, dive in and enjoy yourself.
We are live role-players; we play improvised acting games set in a fantasy world. If you don't know what role-playing, or live role-playing is, the rest of this site isn't going to make much sense. So, to get you up to speed, we've included two descriptions of what live role-playing, or LRP, are all about.
The world we play in is part of the Curious Pastimes universe. It bears some similarity to dark-age europe - at least, it would of the dark-age and celtic myths were true.
Within this world are several social and military groups, roughly equivalent to nations. They are The Jhereg (Russians), Fir Cruthen (Celts), The Vipers (Teutonic), The Wolves (Norse), The Lions (British), the Al'Gaia (used to be the Gryphons, and French), Nomads and Mercenaries.
House T'Samaris are a group of Drow within the Jhereg. The Drow are a race of evil, black-skinned elves. The idea of the Drow has been around for many years, in LRP, tabletop role-playing, and in fiction. (They might have been inspired by the dark elves of norse fiction. Who knows?) They are subterranean creatures worshipping a spider-demon, Lolth, and they are organised in clans known as houses. House T'Samaris is one such clan, lead by the matriarch and high priestess Seshekatala.
To read a bit more about the basics of Drow life, try Matron Mothers and Worthless Males, and a short piece on religion, Church and State. For more detail on Lolth, read The Religion of the Drow.
Lastly, you could read about the History of the Drow.
Now that you know about the Drow, we can introduce the house itself. To get a rough overview of the house (and find some contact details for individual players), read A Short Introduction To House T'Samaris.
Live role-play happens at events lasting from a few hours to several days. We play one weekend every five or six weeks throughout the warmer months. They are a little like a stage production, and involve props, costume, and make-up. So, to find out about the way we drow ourselves up, read Drow Costume.
If you want to see what an event looks like, have a look at our Picture Gallery
If you want to talk about anything on the site, or if you are a CP larper and want to organise some plot, you can email Gemma , who plays a High Priestess.
There are some T'Samaris Private Pages, but they're private...
